Boss Paid Me to Watch His Wife: five grand and a nightly call from Singapore

What is Boss Paid Me to Watch His Wife about?

Lucy is out by the pool when her husband rings to ask whether she is alone, and she makes Nate give the answer while she listens a few feet away.

The boss is off to Singapore for a week, and rather than leave his wife alone in the house, he pays Nate five grand to watch her. On the first afternoon the assignment looks easy: Lucy is by the pool, Nate is within sight, and the boss is reassured over the phone. Lucy does not see it as protection. In her eyes the fee says it all: the sum that once went on her birthday now pays a man to keep her in line.

The ten o’clock calls give the series its shape. Every night at ten the boss checks in, and Nate has to sound like a reliable employee while Lucy tells him what to say. Then the boss makes things worse by his own request: Nate is to sleep at the house, because Lucy is frightened on her own at night. Boss Paid Me to Watch His Wife turns on that irony, with the husband himself moving the minder closer to his wife each time he phones.

Episode 1: Report from the pool

The boss rings to ask whether his wife is alone, and Lucy tells Nate to answer. Nate reports that she is out at the pool and swears she has not left his sight for a second. The boss calls him a good man, tells him to keep watching and to take care of whatever she needs. Lucy is amused: five grand to watch her, when he used to spend that on her birthday.

Nate asks whether that is why she put on the red one as soon as the car left. With her husband in Singapore for seven days and ringing at ten each night, she says, Nate will need a story for him, namely that she is behaving, and after that he can come upstairs. A second call changes the plan: Nate must stay the night, the guest room is next to hers, and Lucy tells him not to bother with it.

Episode 2: Still on the line

The second episode is a single tense call from Singapore. On the boss's orders, Nate goes to the bedroom to see that Lucy is fine. She is waiting when he gets there and says she knew he would come. Is he still just checking, she asks, or is he staying? From the phone, the boss asks whether Nate is still there, and Lucy tells him to answer.

What will Nate tell the boss when he answers?

Most of the week in Singapore is still ahead when the free part ends, and Nate has been invited into the one room he was only paid to keep an eye on. Lucy wants to know if he is staying, her husband wants to know if he is listening, and Nate cannot satisfy both of them. The rest of the week plays out in episodes 3 to 5 on Candy AI, and this guide does not go past episode 2.
