What is My Roommate's Girlfriend about?

Nate's good morning to Sadie comes with a complaint about the thin walls and a verdict on her night with Ben that she would much rather not hear.

Ben’s girlfriend Sadie stays at the flat every weekend, and his roommate Nate never lets a visit pass quietly. He wanders about in a towel, comments on whatever he heard through the walls and tells her, cheerfully, that Ben is boring. Sadie, who is 23, calls Nate the worst and wishes he would move out, yet she answers every jab he throws.

Nate’s whole strategy is to make Sadie say out loud what she wants, and hers is to refuse while never quite leaving the room. Ben is sweet, trusting and usually asleep, which is where the series earns its cuckold tag. In My Roommate’s Girlfriend, each of Ben’s calls from the bedroom lands in the middle of a conversation he would not like to hear.

Episode 1: All weekend, says Ben

Nate privately notes how attractive his roommate's girlfriend is, then greets her with a jab about the thin walls and how unimpressive her night sounded. Sadie snaps at him to be quiet and says she cannot wait for him to find another place. When she defends Ben as sweet, Nate answers that sweet is not what she wants, and claims to know what she does want; she calls him annoying, and he tells her she loves it.

Ben calls Sadie back to bed, and Nate slips in a last dig as she answers. Then Ben, oblivious, asks whether Nate is fine with Sadie staying the whole weekend, and Nate says yes with obvious enthusiasm. Sadie's parting shot is that there may be more noise tonight. Nate's is an open offer: once Ben bores her, she knows which door to try, and he will be waiting.

At two in the morning Nate concludes that Ben could not deliver. Sadie appears and asks for his silence, which he ignores, wondering aloud whether that outfit was really chosen for a trip to fetch water. Since he boasted of knowing what she wants, she challenges him to put it into words, and he obliges with a suggestion about the counter while Ben sleeps; she tells him he wishes.

Ben's drowsy voice breaks in from the other room, and Sadie covers by saying, lightly, that she only came out for water. They bicker over which of them keeps touching the other, and she repeats that he is the worst. He wants it said with feeling, then wants her to admit she wants him right there while Ben sleeps, and the episode closes on her challenge to go ahead.

Will Nate follow through before Ben wakes up again?

By 2 a.m. the argument has finally run out of words. Sadie has stopped pretending she is only there for water, and Nate has been dared to act with Ben a single call away. Unanswered so far: whether Ben ever suspects anything, and whether a weekend of thin walls changes which bedroom Sadie heads back to.
