My Stepsister Still Calls Me Loser: four years of insults and one shared bathroom

What is My Stepsister Still Calls Me Loser about?

Ethan finds Sadie already in the bathroom they now share, tells himself not to look, looks anyway, and is reminded that it is her bathroom too.

Ethan spent four years at college as Sadie’s favourite target, so the wedding that makes them stepbrother and stepsister is a shock to them both. She cannot believe she now lives with the person she made fun of, and a parent sends Ethan to show her upstairs, where the two of them will share a bathroom. Her first words to him in the new house are an order to keep away from her things.

My Stepsister Still Calls Me Loser runs on a reversal. Ethan still thinks Sadie is the most attractive woman he has ever seen, which he finds humiliating, and Sadie turns out to have noticed that he has changed. Her apology for four miserable years comes with a condition: he has to admit he still thinks about her. With both parents downstairs and her mother liable to come looking, every move happens one sound away from discovery.

Episode 1: The nickname moves in

Ethan's voice sets it up: the parents' wedding has turned his worst college tormentor into a stepsister. Sadie greets him with the old nickname and is horrified to learn that their parents have married and she will be living with him. A parent sends Ethan to show her upstairs and mentions the shared bathroom, and her reply is a warning to keep his hands off her stuff.

He admits to himself that she is still the most attractive woman he has ever seen. A bathroom encounter follows that neither of them can pretend away, and Sadie insists it is her bathroom too while he offers to wait. Then the tone shifts: she tells him he has got attractive, owns up to four years of making him miserable, and offers to make amends if he admits he still thinks about her.

Episode 2: One sound from discovery

Ethan's answer comes straight away: he has thought about her every day since college, and Sadie says she knew it. With the parents downstairs, she walks into his room and turns the lock. His warning that both parents are directly underneath gets nothing more than a calm admission that she knows.

Downstairs, Sadie's mother asks Ethan's father whether he has seen her, explaining that she has looked everywhere and checked the kitchen twice. He has no idea and assumed she was with her mother. Ethan knows that a single sound would carry. Sadie tells him he was never a loser, then asks him to stay completely silent.

How long before Sadie's mother checks the rooms upstairs?

Sadie has finally said what four years of insults were hiding, and Ethan has admitted he never stopped thinking about her. That leaves two people in a locked room and two parents downstairs, one of whom is already looking for her daughter. The shared bathroom, the nickname and the new family arrangement all remain unresolved, and episodes 3 to 5 pick the story up from that locked door.
