House Rules: a stepmom's orders while his father travels

What is House Rules about?

The hot tub is warming up when his girlfriend rings to say she will visit tomorrow, and Veronica answers his worried face with a second rule: no more calls today.

He comes home expecting to see his father and finds only Veronica at the door, delighted to see her handsome stepson. Business has taken his father out of town for the week, which leaves the pair alone in the house, and Veronica is keen to explain her rules the moment he arrives. He has a girlfriend, he reminds himself, and he has to say it more than once.

House Rules builds each scene around a new instruction. Rule one is to follow her every command; rule two bans calls to his girlfriend for the day; a later rule says he may not pretend he did not hear her at night. Each one lands just as the girlfriend phones or approaches, and each objection he raises, that Veronica is his stepmom and his father’s wife, sounds weaker than the one before.

Episode 1: Rule one, then rule two

House Rules, episode 1 · open to anyone, no login

Veronica welcomes her stepson home and, when he asks where his dad is, explains that he is on a work trip, leaving the two of them alone. She offers to introduce him to her house rules, and he panics privately at the thought of a week with her, reminding himself that he has a girlfriend. Rule one, she tells him: he follows her every command.

After pointing him to a room for his bags, she lets slip that the outdoor hot tub is heating and asks him to join her. His girlfriend calls with news that she is visiting tomorrow. Veronica asks whether it is girl trouble, then sets rule two, no calling the girlfriend today. When he protests that she is his stepmom, she gives him ten minutes to be in the shower and tells him not to keep her waiting.

Episode 2: Rule four at breakfast

He reaches the shower late and turns her down plainly: he has a girlfriend, and Veronica is his father's wife. She shrugs it off, deciding he is simply not ready yet. That night he hears her through the wall, and it is obvious from what she says that she is thinking about her stepson, something he cannot pretend he missed.

In the morning she asks, all innocence, whether he slept well, and he answers that he sort of did. Her robe and her intentions are hard to miss, and rule number four follows: no acting as though last night's noises never reached him. Then his girlfriend calls out that she has arrived, and while he says they should stop, Veronica wants to carry on with the girlfriend waiting outside.

Can he hide Veronica's rules once his girlfriend is inside?

The countdown has run out by the end of episode 2: the girlfriend who rang in episode 1 is now at the door, and Veronica has made it clear that her arrival changes nothing. Rule three has not been spelled out on screen, and the week with his father away has barely begun. The rest of the visit, and any rules still to come, are in episodes 3 to 5 on Candy AI.

His girlfriend is heard on the phone and at the door, and every character is a invented adult brought to life by AI, with no creator twin.
