What is Our Exchange Student about?

Mica opens her stay by asking her host to define friends with benefits, and his girlfriend, already running late, leaves him alone to help the new guest settle in.

Hosting an exchange student was the girlfriend’s idea, and she chose Mica partly because of her interesting questions. Mica arrives shy and polite, eager to improve her English, and with the girlfriend busy or late most of the time, the job of helping her settle in lands on the narrator. That includes answering whatever she asks, and Mica always asks about the phrases he would least like to define.

Each lesson in Our Exchange Student turns into a demonstration, and each one is timed around the girlfriend: just out of the room, waiting in bed or standing under the shower. Mica learns, she says, when someone shows her. She also has a boyfriend of her own, who phones at the worst moment, so both relationships sit one interruption away from trouble.

Episode 1: What friends with benefits means

Mica's first puzzle for her host is the phrase friends with benefits. He notes that hosting was his girlfriend's plan, and that she chose this guest for her curious questions; then the girlfriend dashes off, late, leaving him in charge of getting Mica settled. Alone with her, he fumbles through an explanation involving two friends and nothing attached, and Mica takes to the idea at once.

Tease is the next word on her list, and she wants to know if her current behaviour qualifies. From the bedroom his girlfriend asks if he is coming, and he says two minutes. Mica explains that she learns best by demonstration, mentions that his girlfriend works late tomorrow, and asks him to make that lesson unforgettable.

Episode 2: Where the line is

His girlfriend calls out that she is in the shower and will make dinner when she is done. Mica has already timed her showers at twelve minutes. Her phrase for the day is crossing the line. He describes it as going so far there is no way back, and she asks to be shown precisely where that line sits.

Her phone rings, and it is her boyfriend asking what she is up to; she says she is studying and that her host is helping. After the call they have nine minutes left. He says this is crazy, and she replies that crazy is one word she already knows. She asks whether the next step would be crossing the line, invites him to stop her if he wants to, and the episode ends on a teasing little whoops.

Will the lesson end before the shower turns off?

Two relationships hang over the end of episode 2: the narrator's girlfriend under the running water, and Mica's boyfriend, who has just rung off believing she is studying. Mica has defined crossing the line and asked to be shown it. What remains open is whether he says stop, and how long the household can keep up its new routine of lessons and timers before someone notices. The series carries on in episodes 3 to 5, which this guide leaves alone.

Our Exchange Student cast: who is who

The unnamed boyfriend narrates, so the household is seen through his eyes. His girlfriend, also unnamed, is the one who chose to host, and Mica is the semester guest, listed on Candy AI as Mica Sarasola, with a boyfriend of her own on the phone. The whole cast is fictional, adult and generated by AI, with no creator twin.
