Moments after his dad leaves until Sunday night, Riley wants to know whether he is seeing anyone at college, and her reply to his no comes a little too fast.

The father’s plan is simple: a fishing trip, back on Sunday night, and one parting instruction to his wife, that his son should not spend the whole weekend with his books. Riley assures him she will find ways to occupy him. The son is home from college for just two days, and until now his stepmom has been nothing more to him than his dad’s wife. What he has missed is how long Riley has been paying attention to him.

My Stepmom’s Weekend runs on the distance between what the father thinks is happening and what is happening in his house. Riley moves fast but keeps handing her stepson the chance to refuse, telling him to say no or say stop. A phone call from the father lands at the worst moment, and her calm answers to him only make the deception plainer. Two days is not long, and both of them know it.

On his way out the father asks Riley to make sure his son does more than study, and she says she will keep him occupied. Alone with her stepson, she opens with girlfriends: is there one at college? There is not, and her quick approval needs a hasty cover about concentrating on his studies.

She teases him for dawdling, then tells him his father has never looked at her the way he just did. His denial goes nowhere; she enjoyed it, she says, and she has more to say. Tonight will be a film, horror or action; his dad has no time for films, or for much else she enjoys. As he starts to wonder what she is really after, Riley asks whether he would like to know more.

Film night has barely started when Riley makes her move, adding that one word from him will end it. His father then rings to ask how everyone is getting on. Both of them reassure him: Riley claims she is simply keeping his son company, the son praises how well she is looking after him, and Riley slips in that he is learning plenty before wishing her husband a good catch.

When it is time for bed, she asks him to make room and offers a story, improvised line by line, about a stepmom who drifts around the house in silk. He objects that none of that is in the book; she says she is making it up. One word, stop, would send her back to her own room. He never says it, and she assures him that this stays between the two of them.

Will the secret survive his dad's return on Sunday night?

By the end of episode 2 the father has been fooled once on the phone and is still away until Sunday night. The weekend has barely begun, his son is due back at college afterwards, and Riley has promised that whatever happens stays between them.
