What is The Maid of Honor about?

Emma will not let the groom into the bedroom because it is bad luck, so when he struggles with his tie, it is Mila who steps in to fix it.

The ceremony is set for two hours’ time, and Emma has shut herself away to get ready, certain that her fiancé must not lay eyes on her first. Her sister Mila, the maid of honour, opens the series by stating her plan: she wants the groom before Emma has him. She has been waiting since the pair first met, and the countdown finally gives her a reason to stop.

In The Maid of Honor the bedroom door works as both danger and alibi. Emma can hear voices and keeps calling through it, about nerves, about her hair, about where her sister has wandered off to, yet the bad-luck rule means she will not step out to look. Mila leans on that rule at every turn, and the groom’s protests about his vows only confirm what she already knows: the deadline is the point.

Mila sets out her intentions in the opening lines: in two hours her sister marries this man, and she means to have him first. When the groom asks to come into the bedroom, Emma refuses, since a groom who sees the bride before the wedding brings bad luck. His tie defeats him, Mila offers to help, and Emma, recognising her sister's voice, is relieved that someone is taking charge.

Knot done, Mila asks whether she can tell him something, then confesses she has wanted him from the moment he met Emma. He reminds her of the wedding. She is well aware, she says: in two hours. As Emma calls out for him, Mila spells out what she wants: a single time with him before the vows.

Episode 2: Bad luck works both ways

Mila still has her arms around the groom when Emma, through the door, asks if he is nervous. A little, he admits. Mila draws him closer, and when he whispers that Emma is right there, she tells him to be quiet. Then comes a request for help with her zip, made in a hurry before she can think better of it.

He protests again that her sister is only a door away, and Mila reminds him that Emma cannot look, because looking would be bad luck. He is free to stare, she says, as long as he never tells. Soon Emma wants her sister for her hair, and when no one comes she calls out asking where Mila is. Mila's whispered verdict: the bride can wait.

Will the groom reach the altar with the secret intact?

By the end of episode 2 the groom has already crossed a line, Emma is growing impatient for her sister, and the bad-luck rule is the only thing keeping the bedroom door shut. The ceremony is still on the clock. Whether Mila gets her one time, whether Emma opens the door and whether the wedding goes ahead at all are questions the paid episodes, 3 to 5, take up; this guide leaves them alone.
